Meta: Mark Zuckerberg’s company Meta has removed about 26 million or more than 2.6 crore bad content from its social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. According to its fixed policy, Meta has removed about 19.8 million or about 1.98 crore bad content from Facebook. Apart from this, Meta had removed 6.2 million i.e. 60 lakh bad content from Instagram in the month of December.
Meta removed crores of content
Let us tell you that in the month of November in India, Meta had removed 10.5 i.e. about 1.05 crore bad content from Facebook and 2.5 i.e. 25 lakh bad content from Instagram. However, in the month of December, Facebook’s figure reached from 1.05 crore to 1.98 crore, whereas in the case of Instagram, this figure reached from 25 lakh to 62 lakh.
Let us tell you that social media apps like Facebook and Instagram allow users to report. If their users find something wrong in any content, then they can report it and complain to Facebook or Instagram.
What did Facebook and Instagram do?
According to a latest report by news agency IANS, between December 1-31, Facebook registered 44,332 reports from Indian users and claimed that they resolved 33,072 of these cases. In these reports, users had reported content like hate speech, fake news, and harassment, which also violate Facebook’s rules.
Meta said in its report that out of these 44,332 reports, it has done a special review of 11,260 reports i.e. complaints, and then the company has also taken action in 6,578 reports as per its policies, no action has been taken yet regarding the remaining 4,682 reports. The decision has not been taken.
Talking about Instagram, in the month of December, Indian users using this app had filed 19,750 reports. Of these, Instagram resolved 9,555 cases quickly and conducted a special review of 10,195 reports, out of which the company took action in 6,028 reports as per its policies and has not yet taken any decision regarding the remaining 4,167 reports.
The anger had fallen on social media
Let us tell you that in the past, many big social media companies including Meta, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter had to face severe criticism in America. American lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties had accused many social media platforms including Meta of playing with the safety of children. An American lawmaker even told the CEOs of all these platforms, including Mark Zuckerberg, that your hands are stained with blood.
After this, Mark Zuckerberg also apologized to American lawmakers and the children and their parents who were affected by the bad content of social media. Now it remains to be seen what steps Meta and all these apps take in the future regarding bad content and children’s safety on their social media platforms.
